Ngl, one of the crunchiest things I do is make my own popcorn at home and sneak it in my purse into the theater. I used to love movie theater popcorn but it’s begun to taste like chemicals to me AND it’s expensive.
I’ve experimented with all sorts of toppings, and have landed on the ultimate mix to suit my palette. I took Samin Nosrat’s recipe from “Good Things” and riffed on it a bit, adding in smoked Hungarian paprika and some Trader Joe’s elotes seasoning. I pop kernels on the stove in a mix of vegetable and coconut oil, then toss them in my house blend of nutritional yeast, Diamond kosher salt, paprika, and elotes seasoning. Once it’s cool, I transfer to a bag and stash for snacking when I’m at the theater.
I also like putting hot or iced tea in my thermos! Lately, when I go to the movies, I’ve also been toting some crunchy green grapes in a jar, too. Y’know, for a balanced snack.
